The Baltic Sea in the Maritime Policy of the European Union
The Baltic Sea region as an internal sea of the European Union has a unique position among the sea areas of the Union. The views from the Baltic Sea region as well as the particular environmental challenges of this marine region deserve an adequate attention in shaping the maritime policy.
Issues of transport and logistics deserve special
attention on the Baltic Sea agenda. A particular challenge is posed by
the rapidly growing sea transport from Russian west coast ports to the
rest of Europe.
